CUSTOM NEON® SHOWCASE
GRILL'D - GLASS TO LED NEON
What do you do when your glass neon sign stops working? One of Australia's largest burger chains, Grill'd reached out to ask if we could upgrade their broken glass neon signs with energy-efficient versions utilizing LED neon.
The brief was to keep the vintage look of the light-up sign encased within the channel letters, ensure the signs were suitable for outdoor use, and, of course, make them exact replicas of the burger chain's iconic logo. We said, "No worries!" and got to work.

What we made for GRILL'd:
We transformed the brand's vintage-looking glass neon sign into a more energy-efficient, longer-lasting one using LED neon. Senior LED neon designer Hamish drew up the specifications and scaled them to fit within the existing aluminium channels, precisely replicating the original design.
Our LED neon fabricator worked with a local electrician to remove the faulty glass neon from the metal casing and replace it with red LED neon tubes. For this glass-to-LED project, we used our Naked Neon™ backing. The "barely there" nature of the Naked Neon™ backboard meant it fit perfectly into the channel letters.
The final part of the brief was that the upgrade must be suitable for extended use outdoors. The LED neon sign-making process we used to replace the traditional glass neon tubes is IP67 waterproof rated, making it ideal for the project.
LED neon is brighter, more energy efficient, and will last much longer than the original gas neon sign. Our signs have an average lifespan of up to 100,000 hours and can be controlled with a dimmer and remote, giving you a wider range of brightness options than you'd have with glass neon signs.
